Snakes

Although all snakes have long cylindrical bodies , many species have unique modification depending up on the habitat in which they live

Habits
They feed mainly on rodents. They can enter residential area searching for cooler place

Habitat
Usually stay in burrows abandoned by rodents and dark places

Threats
Snakes are venomous if bitten can lead to death

Prevention:

  • Snake Repellent to be applied around the building and human activity areas after making sure no snake available or hiding inside the building (Specially during the mating season – May, June, July).
  • Glue Board Traps to fixed indoor areas.
  • Rodent borrows available in the open area far from buildings should be treated with fumigant (Phostoxin tablet).
  • Good Hygiene program to be implemented in premises by the premises management. (e.g. Garbage removal to be done on daily basis).

Scorpion

scorpions are arachnids that possess eight legs. Scorpions live in very dry climates. Despite this, they are very sensitive to the loss of moisture from their body. They must drink water and they hide during the day in shady burrows. Colour varies with species

Threats
Scorpion are venomous if bitten can lead to death. It affects the nervous system of victim. Each species have a unique mixture

Prevention:
Removing rocks, wood piles, loose boards, debris and old tyres can discourage scorpions.

Make sure that the door and window seals are tightened, and cover them. Close any vents or holes to keep scorpions outside. By controlling other insects this will help to control the scorpions as the scorpions feed the insects.

Once you have taken all precautions to prevent scorpions as much as possible in outdoor area, some people may find that they also have a problem indoors. A lot of precautions need to be taken to prevent getting stung.

At night time take extra precaution by wearing hard shoes. To help identify scorpions at night, use a black light as the scorpion's body will reflect the light
