6 Signs of a Fly Problem on Your Property

Flies reproduce quickly in the UAE’s warm climate. Spotting the signs early can save you from a bigger infestation and the hygiene issues that come with it.

01

Flies Swarming Around Doors and Windows

Large numbers of flies on windows, light fixtures, and entry doors often indicate that there is a breeding source nearby. House flies are naturally drawn to light and warmth, and these are some of the first places you’ll notice an infestation.

Flies breed faster than you think

In the UAE’s climate, a fly infestation can escalate from a few individuals to thousands within two weeks. Professional intervention targets both the adult population and the breeding source for lasting control.

Why You Can’t Delay Fixing A Fly Infestation?

Flies are more than a nuisance. They leave behind nothing but contamination in their wake. Waiting to get professional fly control services can result in both health and reputational harm. Here’s how.

Contamination of Food

Flies often move from unsanitary areas to food preparation surfaces. They carry bacteria and other harmful germs around with them as they move. These can get into food and make it unsafe to eat.

Spread of Diseases

Flies are known to carry pathogens that cause diseases, including Salmonella, E. coli, cholera, dysentery and typhoid fever. They can move freely between contaminated and clean areas and, hence, are a serious hygiene concern.

Failed health and hygiene checks

Visible fly activity may lead to failed inspections and non-compliance during municipality and food safety audits for restaurants, hotels, food production facilities and catering businesses.

Reputational Damage and Customers Complaints

Flies buzzing around dining areas, reception spaces, retail environments or healthcare facilities make a negative impression quicker than anything. Complaints, bad reviews and lost business opportunities can all result from a minor infestation.

Four Methods We Use to Control Flies

Different fly treatment techniques are applied according to species, property type and severity of the infestation. More often than not, the best results are achieved by combining several treatments.

UV Light Trappers

Restaurants, hotels, food production, retail

Immediate Continuous
How It Works

UV light traps attract flies with certain wavelengths of light and trap them on sticky boards. They are often used in restaurants, hotels, food production facilities and retail spaces.

Residual Surface Treatment

Exterior walls, resting sites, entry points, refuse areas

Same day 4–6 weeks
How It Works

Our technicians use products approved by the municipality on surfaces where flies typically land and gather. It creates a protective barrier that kills flies on contact with the treated areas.

Drain Organic Treatment

Drain flies, floor drains, grease traps, overflow pipes

3–7 days Monthly cycle
How It Works

Drain flies often breed in the organic material that builds up inside pipes and drains. Bio-enzymatic treatments digest this build-up and eliminate the conditions that allow for the infestation to reproduce.

Fly Baiting Stations

Waste areas, loading docks, outdoor dining, bin stores

1–2 days 2–4 weeks
How It Works

Fly bait stations are strategically located around waste areas, loading bays, outdoor seating areas and bin stores. They attract flies and kill them before they get on your property.

Debug typically combines UV light traps with drain bio-treatment for food service properties, and residual spray with bait stations for residential and outdoor areas. All fly control programmes include species identification, source mapping, and a structured monitoring schedule to track fly counts over time. Commercial clients receive HACCP-compliant documentation for audit purposes.

The Four-Step Process of Fly Treatment

Our approach is systematic to stop the flies that are there now and make an infestation less likely in the future.

01

Fly Species Identification and Source Determination

Our experts identify what species of flies are on your property, locate the breeding sites, assess the level of infestation and determine the best strategy for treatment.

~ 45 minutes
02

Elimination Of The Breed Source

We target the source of the infestation by treating drains, providing sanitation advice, improving waste management and removing breeding sites.

Root cause
03

Decreasing the adult fly population

UV light traps, residual treatments and bait stations are set where appropriate to quickly reduce the number of adult flies on the property.

6 Tips to Keep Your Property Fly-Free

An active infestation will require professional fly removal treatment, but a few preventative measures can go a long way in reducing the risk of future fly activity.

01

Keep waste areas clean

Waste bins should be emptied regularly, have lids and be cleaned regularly. One of the biggest fly attractants is organic waste.

02

Get Air Curtains And Screens

Screens on windows and doors also help keep flies out of the building. In commercial facilities, air curtains are installed above frequently used entrances.

03

Clean Drains Regularly

Frequent cleaning of floor drains, grease traps and overflow pipes should be undertaken to prevent organic build-up, which encourages fly breeding.

04

Correct food storage

Keep food covered or in sealed containers. Fruit, juices and sugary products can attract flies from surprisingly long distances.

05

Manage External Bin Store(s)

Where possible, outdoor waste areas should be clean, well-drained and located away from building entrances.

06

UV Light Traps

UV light traps require regular servicing to be effective. Replace lamps and adhesive boards at recommended intervals for accuracy of fly control and monitoring.

What is the Cost of Professional Fly Control Services in the UAE?

Professional fly control costs depend on several factors. Let us walk you through it.

Property Type And Size

Larger commercial properties take longer to inspect, treatment coverage and equipment for monitoring than smaller residential areas.

Fly species and degree of infestation

Different species of flies require different methods of treatment. A small fruit fly problem will normally be easier to fix than an extensive infestation involving several species and breeding sites.

Equipment Requirements

The overall cost of treatment depends on the number of UV light traps, bait stations and other control measures required.

Requirements for Monitoring and Maintenance

Some properties require a one-off treatment, others benefit from ongoing monitoring programmes which provide long-term protection and compliance support.

I came across this company while searching for a good bug exterminator and I must say I was very impressed with their prices and the quality of their work. I had an infestation of bees and after researching a reputable company I found debug pest control. I called them first thing in the morning and they were there by noon. They gave me a free quote and spent over an hour on the house to remove the bees and secure the hive. I would definitely recommend these guys!

What to say and not to sound like payed internet bot? First of all I searched for 2 days who to contact and randomly I decided to contact them over their website, they responded from AD office, transfer the case to DXB and from that moment I booked them within 24h, super fast! They came at 8:30 and did a 3 different treatments for yellow ants that I inherited from previous tenant, closed the AC and left the apartment. What I experience now is how good are their insecticides, around the toilet and balcony I have a graveyard of ants, in tones, that I was not expecting to have at all so much, next I have also dead cockroaches on balcony, which I was thinking that I don't have... I will call them again definitely, because this is a right service provider from my perspective. I expect that ants needs a few treatments and at least I know who to call for help. I recommend them without any hesitations, the gentlemen that did the work in my house was Richard, nice, calm and very detailed in his work. Thanks De.Bug!

Fly control FAQ.

Common questions about fly control, fly prevention, and fly management programmes for commercial and residential properties in the UAE.

The four most common fly species in UAE properties are house flies (Musca domestica), fruit flies (Drosophila), drain flies (Psychodidae family, also called moth flies), and blow flies (Calliphoridae family). Each species has different breeding habits and requires a specific treatment approach. Debug identifies the species during a free on-site inspection before recommending a treatment plan.
Adult fly populations are reduced significantly on the same day of treatment — UV light traps begin capturing immediately, and residual sprays provide contact-kill within hours. Full resolution, including breeding source elimination via drain bio-treatment, typically takes 3–7 days. Ongoing monitoring ensures the population does not return.
Yes. Debug uses HACCP-compliant, food-safe treatment methods for kitchens and food production facilities. UV insect light traps are chemical-free and capture flies on glue boards. Drain bio-treatments use enzymatic formulations that are safe for plumbing and food environments. Residual sprays are applied to non-food-contact surfaces only, using municipality-approved products.
Fly control cost depends on property type, size, fly species present, and whether a one-off treatment or ongoing monitoring programme is required. Debug provides a detailed quote after a free on-site inspection — no hidden fees. Commercial fly management programmes with UV trap servicing are priced as monthly or quarterly contracts. Call 800 7890 for a free fly inspection and quote.
Cleaning removes attractants but does not eliminate breeding sources. Drain flies breed inside the organic film lining pipes — invisible from above. Fruit flies can breed in a thin residue inside a bottle cap. House flies may breed in areas you cannot access, such as wall cavities with a dead animal or external bin stores. Professional treatment targets the breeding source, not just the adults you see.
Yes — when correctly positioned. UV insect light traps (ILTs) are the gold standard for fly control in food service, hospitality, and healthcare environments. Effectiveness depends on placement (facing entry points, not competing with exterior light), lamp freshness (UV output declines before visible light fades — replace annually), and regular glue board replacement. Debug installs and services all ILTs according to HACCP positioning guidelines.

Yes. Fly control for restaurants, hotels, catering kitchens, and food production facilities is one of Debug’s core services. All commercial fly management programmes include HACCP-compliant documentation, scheduled UV trap servicing with fly count trend reports, drain bio-treatment, and audit-ready records for ADAFSA and Dubai Municipality inspections.

For commercial properties — particularly restaurants, hotels, and food production — Debug recommends monthly fly monitoring and quarterly intensive treatment. Residential properties typically require one-off or seasonal treatment. Debug’s Annual Maintenance Contracts include scheduled fly control visits with UV trap servicing and drain treatment built into the programme.

Yes. Flies are mechanical vectors for over 100 pathogens including Salmonella, E. coli, Shigella (dysentery), Salmonella typhi (typhoid fever), and Vibrio cholerae (cholera). They transmit pathogens by landing on contaminated material (waste, sewage, decaying matter) and then landing on food, food-contact surfaces, and utensils. The World Health Organisation classifies flies as a significant public health concern in warm climates.
